DANA HILLS BOYS VOLLEYBALL ALUMNI AND HISTORY

Since its early years competing in the CIF Southern Section and South Coast League, Dana Hills boys volleyball has historically built a reputation as a competitive and respected program in Southern California.

The Dolphins have consistently battled among strong regional competition, producing teams that have earned league championships and regular postseason appearances. In 1986, under the direction of Coach Oz Simmons, Dana Hills captured the CIF Southern Section Division 4‑A boys volleyball championship, one of the program’s most celebrated achievements and a milestone that still hangs proudly in the gym as a reminder of the program’s competitive tradition. A defining figure in Dana Hills volleyball history is Oz Simmons, fondly remembered in the community for his passion for the sport and his impact on generations of players. Simmons led the Dolphins through some of their most successful seasons in the 1980s and early 1990s, including that notable 1986 CIF championship run. His coaching style emphasized fundamentals, teamwork, and competitive toughness — values that continue to influence the culture of the program today. Teammates and opponents alike respected his knowledge of the game, and his legacy is often cited as foundational in shaping the program’s identity.

Many former Dolphins have gone on to compete at high levels in NCAA Division I volleyball and other competitive venues, carrying with them the lessons learned at Dana Hills — resilience, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. The culture of excellence cultivated on the hilltop continues to inspire incoming freshmen and returning players alike as they strive for success both on and off the court.
